Is the Society® app free?

Yes, the Society® app is free for all students at University and College worldwide. Students can now create a free branded app in an instant. Create an app for your University society or College club, group of friends, community or organization. You must have a University or College email address.

Is the student data safe?

Yes, all student data is 100% safe. Society is the trusted alternative to the status quo. We pledge to keep your privacy safe, we will never share and never sell your personal data. 

All private and group chat messages are secured with end-to-end encryption.

​How fast is it to create your app?

Super fast, less than 60 seconds! You’ll need to tell all your Committee or Friends to download the app so you can add them in the Admin management and select your Hosts. Then you’re ready to launch and promote your own branded society app!

​How do I access the Admin management for an app?

You have to be an admin of the app to see the pencil icon at the top of the app. Click on the pencil and you will access the Admin management.

​How do I add events?

In the Admin, go to the Events section. You can post events with push notifications for everyone in your app to see. You are able to link events & tickets sales directly into your society bank account or to another payment booking platform e.g Student Union, Fatsoma, etc.

How many events can I post?

You can post an unlimited number of events. Each new event will send a push notification alert to all your members.

How do I create adverts?

In the Admin, go to the Adverts section. You can create in-app adverts, which can be directly linked to an external website/link. Great to use for your sponsors!

How do I add event sponsor logos?

When you create an event, click the button ‘Upload Sponsor Images’. You can add up to 6 sponsor logo/images which will appear in the event full description. 

How do I add Hosts?

In the Admin, go to the Hosts section and you will be able to give the spotlight to any member.

How do I add admins?

You can upgrade any of your Hosts into App Admins. 

​Can events only appear in the Calendar?

Events can also be featured to appear under the My Events section.

Can I be an admin of multiple apps at my university?

Yes, you can be an admin of multiple apps at the same time.

How do I switch between my apps?

Click on the app logo at the top left corner of the app and you will be able to see your personally saved favourites – ‘My Apps’. To follow more apps click the + button and you will be able to select other apps in your university that have been created.

How do I enable CPD certificates?

When you create an event, tick the box ‘Enable Educational Feedback Form and Certificate’. Here you will be able to set and edit the Objectives, Outcomes and Signatures.

Check the University or College rules. If required, you can seamlessly link the ‘Book Now’ or ‘Interested’ call-to-action buttons to any website for the bookings, tickets and payments. When you create an event, tick the box ‘Enable Event Booking’ then can click ‘Edit Booking information’ and select ‘Use External Link’ which allows you to type/paste the website URL – then press the ‘Save’ button. 

​How do I give out free E-Tickets for free events?

Optional: The Society® app can create and send free E-Tickets for free events. When you create an event, tick the box ‘Enable Event Booking’ then can click ‘Edit Booking information’ and select ‘Free Event & Free E-Tickets’, which allows you to enter your event’s details:

  • How many free tickets are available?
  • Maximum tickets per user
  • Further event information 

– then press the ‘Save’ button.

How do I add a bank account for my society?

Before using your own bank account check your University rules first. Once in the Admin, go to the Payments section and you will be able to add a bank account to accept Society® Pay in-app payments for event tickets.

Do you store bank or card details?

The Society® app does not store any bank or card payment details. All financial data is stored by Stripe and processed by Society® app in real-time via Stripe API. All card numbers are encrypted on disk with AES-256. Decryption keys are stored on separate machines. Stripe’s infrastructure for storing, decrypting, and transmitting card numbers runs in separate hosting infrastructure, and doesn’t share any credentials with Stripe’s primary services.

​How do I add event booking with paid e-tickets?

You must have already added your bank account to activate ‘Society® Pay’ for in-app payments and e-tickets. When you create an event, tick the box ‘Enable Event Booking’ then can click ‘Edit Booking information’ and select ‘Society® Pay’, which allows you to enter your event’s details:

  • Booking Fee
  • Ticket Price (minimum £1.00)
  • How many tickets are being sold?
  • Maximum tickets per user
  • Further information (i.e. refund policy, etc)

– then press the ‘Save’ button.

​Once I add my bank account, can I remove or change it?

Yes, in the Admin go to the Payments section. Here, you can ‘Delete Account’ or ‘Edit Bank Details’ when your balance is zero. Please wait for your last payout to complete. Your balance must be over £1 for you to receive a payout of the full balance.

How long does it take for funds to be received once a payment is made on the app?

Payments will reach your bank account within 5 working days as long as you have at least £1 on your account balance after transactions fees.

​What is the “Enable Redeem Code” feature?

Students usually approach local on-campus and surrounding venues and cafes to cut a deal for students. Retailers then decide on a code that they know and when student customers redeem they just show them the app at the counter/point of sale, and the retailer enters the code. This all has to be agreed on in advance with the shop so their staff know what to do.

On your society app, when you create an Event, you will see ‘Enable Redeem Code’, which allows you to enter a 6-character code (e.g. coffee) as agreed with your retailer/shop. App users can then redeem the freebie by passing their phone to the retailer/shop for them to type in the secret unique code. Once redeemed, the app user will not be able to claim the freebie again. Give it a go, test it all out and have a play on the functionality, it’s pretty intuitive and easy to use.

The benefit for the shop is that you can do marketing for them by promoting the offer (i.e. free coffee, free entry, discounted meal, discounted offer) to drive footfall with a call-to-action, deadline etc and awareness of where they are and allow them to increase their customer base with re-visits and upsells.
