There’s a moment in every product’s journey where it stops being defined by where it started.

Welcome to Society v2.0 🔥

What began as an app built for student communities has grown into something much bigger. With the launch of Society v2.0, the platform is no longer limited to campuses. For the first time, anyone - anywhere - can join, create, and grow their own branded community app, completely free of charge.

What we learned from 100,000 members

Over the past few years, Society has powered communities almost exclusively within universities. More than 100,000 members joined during that phase, across thousands of clubs and societies.

In that environment, patterns emerged quickly: Groups that once struggled with fragmented tools - juggling messaging apps, spreadsheets, ticketing platforms and social media pages - began to operate differently when everything was brought into one place. Events became easier to run and easier to attend. Communication stopped getting lost. Committees spent less time organising logistics, and more time actually shaping the culture of their communities.

The outcome of using Society App to manage clubs, groups and communities wasn’t just increased efficiency, it was momentum.

Before the launch of Society v2.0, over 6,000 student groups, clubs and communities have already been using Society App to manage and grow their memberships.

The question that changed everything

As that momentum built, one question became harder to ignore: Why should access to this kind of infrastructure stop at graduation?

The challenges around managing communities weren’t unique to student groups. If anything, they were even more visible outside of them - in local fitness communities, creative groups, professional networks, and social clubs trying to grow without the right tools to support them.

Opening things up

With one fundamental change, Society v2.0 addresses all of these issues for all of these groups - and that change is accessibility.

You no longer need to be part of a university to use Society, and you no longer need to rely on an inefficient combination of different tools to run and grow your community.

Instead, communities can exist in a shared, discoverable space - where people are actively looking for something to be part of.

From hidden groups to discoverable communities

One of the biggest limitations of traditional community-building is visibility. Most groups live behind closed doors - buried in chat threads, private links, or scattered across platforms that were never designed for them. Growth tends to rely on who you already know, rather than who is actually looking.

Local discovery changes that dynamic entirely.

With Society v2.0, individuals can open the app and explore what’s happening around them - whether that’s a book club, a fitness group, a creative collective, or something entirely niche. At the same time, organisers are no longer dependent on external platforms to be found. Their communities become part of a wider ecosystem, not isolated from it.

A better setup for organisers

As communities grow, managing them becomes more complex.

Running a community has historically meant stitching together multiple tools and hoping they hold. Communication happens in one place, events in another, payments somewhere else entirely.

Society brings those pieces together into a single, coherent system:

  • Members, events, and communication in one place

  • Built-in ticketing and updates

  • A structure designed specifically for communities

All of this results in less time spent managing complexity, and more time spent actually building something people want to be part of.

Chat with other club members, keep up to date with your community's feed, and comment and like posts to engage and show support.

A simpler experience for members

For community members, the shift is just as meaningful.

Joining a club, group or community shouldn’t require multiple steps, scattered links, or insider knowledge. It should feel immediate, easy, and inclusive.

Society v2.0 is designed around that idea. Members can find something they’re interested in, understand what it is, and become part of it without friction. Immediate access to be able to book a place at upcoming events, participate in group chats, and directly communicate with organisers allows members to be more engaged and involved than ever before.

More than a redesign

Alongside opening up the platform, Society v2.0 introduces a refreshed brand, a cleaner interface, and a more intuitive onboarding experience. But those changes are ultimately in service of something bigger.

This release marks a transition from a high-performing student product to something more foundational: infrastructure for communities, wherever they exist.

Because the underlying idea hasn’t changed - the most meaningful parts of life still tend to happen in shared spaces - built around common interests, experiences, and people who choose to show up.

What happens next

Society is now live, globally.

  • Organisers can create their space.

  • Individuals can find their people.

  • Communities can grow without the same constraints they’ve always had.

So welcome to the new chapter of Society - the place to Find Your People, create amazing memories, and allow your community to flourish.
