Is the Society® app free?
Yes, the Society® app is free for students and alumni. Committees can now create a free branded app for their university society or college club, group or organization. You must have a university or college email address. Society is the trusted alternative to the status quo.
Is the student data safe?
Yes, all student data is 100% safe. Society is the trusted alternative to the status quo. We pledge to keep your privacy safe, we will never share and never sell your personal data.
How quick is it to create your society?
Super quick. It should only take 5 mins to follow our simple guide on How to Create Your Society. You'll need to tell all your Committee to download the app so you can add them in the Admin management and select your admins. Then you're ready to launch and promote your own branded society app!
How do I access the Admin management for a society?
You have to be an admin of the society to see the pencil icon at the top of the app. Click on the pencil and you will access the Admin management. Watch the Demo!
How do I add events?
In the Admin, go to the Events section. You can post events with push notifications for everyone in your society to see. You are able to link events & tickets sales directly into your society bank account or to another payment booking platform e.g Student Union, Fatsoma, etc. Watch the Demo!
What event types are there?
When you create an event, you can select from: Charity, Competition, Fayre, Freebie, Hands-On, Lecture, Merchandise, Raffle, Social, Sports-Match, Sports-Practise, Talk and Trips.
What is a Freebie event type?
When you create an event type as ‘Freebie’, you will see the field for ‘Redeem Code’ appear, which allows you to enter a secret unique code (e.g. freecoffee123) as agreed with your retailer/shop. App users can then redeem the freebie by passing their phone to the retailer/shop for them to type in the secret unique code. Once redeemed, the app user will not be able to claim the freebie again. Give it a go!
How many events can I post?
You can post an unlimited number of events. Each new event will send a push notification alert to all your members.
How do I create adverts?
In the Admin, go to the Adverts section. You can create in-app adverts, which can be directly linked to an external website/link. Great to use for your sponsors!
How many adverts can I post?
You can post your first advert and then only 1 for every 3 events.
How do I add event sponsor logos?
When you create an event, click the button ‘Upload Sponsor Images’. You can add up to 6 sponsor logo/images which will appear in the event full description.
How do I add committee members?
In the Admin, go to the Committee section and you will be able to add new committee members.
How do I add admins?
You can only make committee members into admins. See How do I add committee members?
Can events only appear in the Calendar?
Events can also be featured by either the committee or user to appear under the My Events section.
Can I join multiple societies at my university?
Yes, you can join any society that has joined the app.
Can I be an admin of multiple societies at my university?
Yes, you can be an admin of multiple societies at a time.
How do I create a new society if I am already an admin of a current society?
If you are an admin of a society, to create a new society you must unselect your current society from your chosen societies, and select a society in which you are not an admin off. Once switched, you can return to select your societies page and proceed to press ‘Create Your Society’.
How do I switch between my societies?
Click on the society logo at the top left corner of the app and you will be able to see your personally saved favourites - ‘My Societies’. To follow more societies click the + button and you will be able to select other societies in your university that have joined the app.
How do I enable CPD certificates?
When you create an event, tick the box ‘Enable Educational Feedback Form and Certificate’. Here you will be able to set and edit the Objectives, Outcomes and Signatures.
My club/society is part of the Student Union, should I link the app to the Student Union website for all bookings/sales?
Highly Recommended: Yes, clubs that are part of the Student Union should seamlessly link the 'Book Now' or 'Interested' call-to-action buttons to the SU URL and direct all traffic to the Student Union website for the usual SU bookings, tickets and payments. The free branded app experience cuts through the noise with push notifications to increase student engagement, participation and sales by driving all traffic to the SU website as per SU rules.
How do I hyperlink ‘Book Now’ buttons to the Student Union website or another website?
You can drive all traffic to the Student Union website (as per SU rules) for the usual bookings/payments via the SU website. When you create an event, tick the box ‘Enable Event Booking’ then can click ‘Edit Booking information’ and select ‘Use External Link’ which allows you to type/paste a URL starting with http:// - then press the ‘Save’ button. Seamlessly link to the SU URL and website.
How do I give out free E-Tickets for free events?
Optional: The Society® app can create and send free E-Tickets for free events. When you create an event, tick the box ‘Enable Event Booking’ then can click ‘Edit Booking information’ and select ‘Free Event & Free E-Tickets’, which allows you to enter your event’s details:

My club is not part of the Student Union, how do I add a bank account for my society?
Optional for clubs that are not part of the Student Union, only if your club is allowed to use their own bank account (check your SU rules first). Once in the Admin, go to the Payments section and you will be able to add a bank account to accept Society® Pay in-app payments for event tickets.
My club is not part of the Student Union, do you store bank or card details?
The Society® app does not store any bank or card payment details. All financial data is stored by Stripe and processed by Society® app in real-time via Stripe API. All card numbers are encrypted on disk with AES-256. Decryption keys are stored on separate machines. Stripe’s infrastructure for storing, decrypting, and transmitting card numbers runs in separate hosting infrastructure, and doesn’t share any credentials with Stripe’s primary services.
My club is not part of the Student Union, how do I add event booking with paid e-tickets?
You must have already added your society bank account to activate 'Society® Pay' for in-app payments and e-tickets. When you create an event, tick the box ‘Enable Event Booking’ then can click ‘Edit Booking information’ and select ‘Society® Pay’, which allows you to enter your event’s details:

Once I add my society bank account, can I remove or change it?
Yes, in the Admin go to the Payments section. Here, you can 'Delete Account' or 'Edit Bank Details' when your balance is zero. Please wait for your last payout to complete. Your balance must be over £1 for you to receive a payout of the full balance.
How long does it take for funds to be received once a payment is made on the app?
Payments will reach your bank account within 3-7 days as long as you have at least £1 on your account balance after transactions fees.
What are the Society® Pay in-app transaction fees?
No setup fees or monthly fees. In the UK, our competitively low transaction fees for Society® Pay in-app payments is just 1.7% + 34p for UK or European cards and 3.3% + 34p for non-UK/European cards. If your society is not based in the UK then the transaction fees will be different based on your country - get in touch for more info.
